RANDOM ACTS OF WEIRDNESS HITS THE STREETS

It was first supposed to come out in April of 2002 at the World Horror Convention - but the publisher dropped it and a new one stepped in. WHY THE KID'S HIDE IS RAW
The micro-niche of Horror Westerns may be making a comeback (Tom Piccirilli's GRAVE MEN, John Findley's TexArcana), but that ain't keeping regular westerns from also making an appearance. According to Marvel comics editor-in-chief, Joe Quesada, 1950s comic book cowboy hero, THE RAWHIDE KID, is coming out of the closet. That's right: There's steers and queers in the old west and the Rawhide Kid ain't wearin' any horns by cracky!

Brian Keene has done gone and got hisself locked into a 3 book contract with Delirium Books. The deal gives Delirium the exclusive hardcover rights to Keene's forthcoming novels MORE THAN INFINITY and LOVE AND WORMS, and an as yet unwritten third novel. The books will be published in 2003, 2005, and 2007.

In other news, there has been some preliminary interest from Hollywood in Keene's novella "Earthworm Gods". Of course, that kind of sniffing around is a dime a dozen. Still exciting though when they take a sniff at you.

PRIME BOOKS HAS BRIAN HOPKINS' CRACK
Prime Books has announced it will publish a new fantasy novel by Oklahoma writer Brian A. Hopkins. Scheduled for a November release, THE CRACK IN THE WELL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EARTH will be Prime's second rack-sized paperback, a move by the small publisher into the paperback mass market. Hopkins was honored with the Horror Writers Association's Bram Stoker Award last year for his first novel, THE LICKING VALLEY COON HUNTERS CLUB (Yard Dog Press), and he has two newly released collections, THESE I KNOW BY HEART (VOX13) and SALT WATER TEARS (Dark Regions Press).

Mike Oliveri (DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES) is a proud Poppa and his own deadliest of the species, wife Melissa Oliveri (TIMOTHY CHARLES) is a proud Momma!

Their new and first baby, Timothy Charles Oliveri, who at first was mistaken for constipation around 3 am Monday morning (Jan. 28), was spit out in natural childbirth that afternoon at 4:05pm. Baby's healthy, Mike is ecstatic, and now that baby is born, Momma is demanding drugs in a voice most sinister.

NO TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR THE WICKED!
Lancaster, PA - Swim for a mile; bike for 25 miles; run for 6.2 miles. Typical triathlon, right? Except for the first time in the YMCA-sponsored event's 20-year history, a portion of the race may be without any traffic control because police officers in the Penn Township area are refusing to participate.

Stevie's the executive producer on this baby which means he managed to get a certain scene or two from being "hacked." LOL!

EDO VON BELKOM AND HIS WICKED IDEAS
As a Horror writer, Edo von Belkom is getting some wicked ideas. I mean, its one thing to be a prolific short story writer and its quite another to be a prolific novelist. Toss in a prolific editor and I don't know any one else who can do all that and still maintain the high quality we've come to expect from Belkom. I mean, last year's TEETH garnered Edo the "One of the best horror novels of 2001 by SF CHRONICLE magazine." The guy is both a Bram Stoker award winner and an Aurora winner for his writing and editing (he has 20 published books and 20 published short stories) and has got rave reviews from no less than Peter Straub, Rue Morgue magazine, Fangoria magazine, this website, and even Stanley "The Dark Dreamer" Wiater!

Edo doesn't even stop to take a breath. Already he has a new book in print, MARTYRS. If his past performance is any indication, this is one to watch for.

4X4 STRIKES AGAIN!
Back in December 2001, Internet film auteur, Jerry Lentz, armed with his trusty UnsteadyCam, caught the 4X4 gang of Brian Keene, Geoff Cooper, Mikey Huyck, Mike Oliveri, and the "fifth Beatle" GAK, on a video interview. Also there were esteemed hangers on like Maria Alexander, Harry Shannon, John Turi, and some clown called Feo Amante.

Now they all have their mugs on video and that money grubbing huckster, Jerry Lentz, is offering its release for a ransom.

This is the complete appearance - live and uncensored mayhem! Some violence, adult language, and graphic sex makes The 4X4 Home Video Too Hot For Tee Vee! Well, not the sex part. Among the topics discussed are 4X4, their various solo books, the HWA, fans, groupies, Feo Amante, and writing in general.

AT LAST! TWILIGHT TALES VISITORS ARRIVE FROM THE BIG APPLE!
Last fall, Becky Maines and Rob Stauffer were the scheduled guests at the Twilight Tales Reading series. Then the terrorist attacks happened in their home turf of New York, causing them to postpone. Well, now, Becky and Rob will be in Chicago at the Red Lion Restaurant & Bar on Monday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m.

HIGHS AND LOWS AT STEALTH PRESS
The good news is signings by Clive, of Clive's BOOKS OF BLOOD are setting records at bookstores. His December 8 signing at Dark Delicacies in Burbank California was the Best Single Day total of any book ever sold there. What's more, it was also the Most Copies of a single selling title ever. So Clive has still got it.

THE DEAD ZONE LIVES AGAIN
Gather 'round, kiddies. Stephen King's "The Dead Zone" will be definitely be a series on USA Cable this spring, starring Anthony Michael Hall. As in the novel (and the classic film) Hall's character is a likeable psychic who emerges from a long coma to find his former life in ruins. Of course, this time around he doesn't die. At least not in the first season, anyway.

Retirement's over! Robert McCammon will return (YES! YES! YES! -feo) as an author this fall with a new book, SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD. Though information is incomplete, it appears the Alabama native has chosen the Montgomery's River City Publishing to print this first novel since his self-imposed retirement in 1999.
