OH GOD THIS GUY'S A SLIMEY CREEP!
Pat Robertson has issued a dodge, an apology, and a lie.

PAT ROBERTSON
First the Lie: Pat Robertson now claims that, despite what we can see on video of HIS OWN DAMN PROGRAM, he did not, in fact, ever say the word "Assassination" (in fact, of course, he did).

The Apology: But Pat wants to apologize for saying that the US should assassinate Hugo Chavez: a whacked out nutjob dictator in Venezuela who is actually gaining some semblance of credibility thanks to Pat (why would you apologize for something that you claim you never said?).

The Dodge: Pat Robertson did a Bill Clinton dodge (define what "is" is?) by explaining that he didn't say to assassinate Chavez, but to "take him out", which could mean a lot of things. One of those things, Pat suggested, was kidnapping.

So in Pat's twisted little world, apologizing for encouraging murder before an International audience - by claiming that you meant to say kidnap - is better??? Kidnapping is OKAY???

Man! This guy makes Ed Lee stories seem downright wholesome!

MGM's last movie. Are they the victims of making films they didn't think would "be really good"?

FUNNY STUFF
This is so funny. Since around May, Hollywood has been scratching its collective head, wondering just why in the hell the movie biz is in such a slump. Of course, message boards full of audience response could have told them - and did. But what the hell does an audience know? They aren't the movie making experts! They are just a bunch of unwashed clods. Leave the cogitating to the one's who live in expensive houses and ride in expensive limos.

So back to the question, why aren't these morons, i.e., our audience, coming to watch our movies?

Finally in August we have an answer. Hollywood believes that the reason audiences, overall, have dropped off is because, overall, their movies have sucked!

I would now like to pause for a big fat freaking DUH!!!

And according to the imdb.com, Michael Lynton, chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, actually made a vow! He vowed that from now on, his studio will be making "only movies we hope will be really good."

Hey, making movies you hope will be really good: Good thinking Mike! Gosh! I hope all of Hollywood feels the same way. This whole throw-crap-at-the-screen-they'll-buy-it-trend, was clearly a bad idea. "Movies we hope will be really good": That's Out-of-the-Jack-in-the-Box thinking! It's easy to see why they pay you the Big Bucks!

THE HORROR OF OLD NAVY
Okay, so it's an Old Navy commercial, meaning its cheesy and cornball as hell. But if you like this shit, then go to SchoolIsComing.com to see some kitchy Horror videos and even make your own Horror movie ... of sorts.

Must Have A Flash Player.

HORRORFIND WEEKEND WITH THE WARNERS

Matt and I have just returned from a great Horrorfind Weekend in Hunt Valley, Maryland, where we debuted his new collection DEATH SENTENCES. While we were there, we were interviewed by Mark Justice for Horror Reader.

Also, I have posted a photo gallery of the weekend. I have pictures of the great flood, the book release party and some author readings.

Be sure to check out my site for information on a special Halloween giveaway. If you haven't already signed up for this year's Halloween card, you'll certainly want to.

WHO STOLE WHAT?

Hey seriously - Seriously - I don't want to step on anyone's grave for what I'm about to say. Cruising through the imdb.com (one of the many news resources I go through and a GREAT resource it is!), I came across an item talking about the hit Thriller series, LOST. Writer/Producer Anthony Spinner has filed suit in Los Angeles "accusing the TV network ABC and producers Touchstone Television of breach of contract and fraud and is seeking unspecified damages." The paragraph goes on to say, "Spinner alleges he was hired by Sid Krofft and Marty Krofft Productions in 1977 to write, produce and direct a program called Lost, a drama about a group of plane crash survivors living on a desert island, which is inhabited by mysterious creatures."

Now the news offers nothing to indicate why a job Mr. Spinner was hired to do for the Kroffts' back in 1977 has anything to do with the the folks who create, write, direct, and produce the modern LOST. To be sure, loads of books have the same name just as loads of movies have the same name. But to think that only Anthony ever came up with the idea of "...plane crash survivors living on a desert island, which is inhabited by mysterious creatures." is to ignore movies like,

Jules Verne's MYSTERIOUS ISLAND: Hot air balloon survivors living on a deserted island, which is inhabited by mysterious creatures.

James Hilton's LOST HORIZON: Plane crash survivors living on a secluded and remote mountain, which is inhabited by mysterious people.

Plus the fact that Sid and Marty Krofft created a show called LAND OF THE LOST in the early 1970s: river raft survivors living in a mysterious land, inhabited by mysterious creatures.

And so on: even Gilligan's Island! So really, there's nothing that original about the idea! In fact, there's nothing original about any idea. Its all in the execution. The point is

AAAAAHH! A BIG SPIDER!

REAL WORLD HORROR
Immediately after the September 11, 2001 attack on the U.S., televangelists, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson threw in with the terrorists by proclaiming the attacks on America were justified. Why? Because God had abandoned us. Why? Because the U.S. allowed things like rights for gay folks and women.

PAT ROBERTSON
Though the two men had been prominent figures in the media and even politics, their individual stars fell rapidly after that.

But despite the outrage and backlash, Pat Robertson continues to talk like an terrorist extremist talibunny. Now Patty whack is calling for the assassination of political leaders of other countries. Is it because they are mass murderers like Saddam Hussein? Nooo! Pat Robertson's long associations with the most brutal of African dictators, and their genocidal runs against the poorest of their nations, has never cast a shadow over his moral compass before. Pat suggests that we take out - as in kill - Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Now no mistake, Hugo is nuts. But he's just another big mouthed paranoid ineffectual blowhard, flapping his lips in invented victimhood, like Kim Jong Ill or Ward Churchill. So if mere talking endangers America, then read the following article and tell me who represents a greater threat to the U.S.

Pat Robertson calls for killing of Hugo Chavez.

Oh yeah, this is getting world wide attention!

JUST BECAUSE IT'S MY WEBSITE AND BECAUSE I WANNA

Today I was thinking of the time I spent in the military (USN) and how depressing it could be sometimes to be out at sea doing nothing, feeling that life was passing me by, and wondering if what I was doing was really worth while. It was so cool then to get the occassional letter from friends or family telling me how much they appreciated what I was doing - even though we weren't in a war then - they were happy that I was doing my part. Being there, just in case. Getting a letter like that, or hearing a buddy read a letter like that, lifted my spirits for weeks.

So now that we are in a war, its even more important than it was in my time. And folks serving in the Armed Forces are playing a far more important role than I did. So since our soldiers have Internet connections and might come across this website, I just want to give out a big Thank You to them. Thank You to our countrymen and countrywomen and our allies.

Thank You for what you are doing. Thank You for your sacrifice. Thank You for being there. Thank You for helping people who desperately need your help, and most importantly, I want to say Thank You again for all of the people who will benefit from what you are doing, but would never thank you for it. Thank You very much.

SCIFIMATTERS
For those newbies to the website, let me say it again, Feo Amante's Horror Home Page is a website dedicated to covering Horror, Thriller, Mystery, and Suspense specifically towards newbies in the field, but is also by the fans and creators, for the fans and creators. We cover both Supernatural Horror Thrillers and Science Fiction Horror Thrillers.

That means that this website is put together entirely by volunteers who have a love for films, books, and stories in these subjects. New people add to the website nearly every day, and you are encouraged to join. So were not a big business in a skyscraper or professional building.

And yet ... We're the first choice for Horror Thriller on the google search engine - even though we've never advertised on google. We're one of the highest google ranked Horror Thriller sites on the web. We're one of the highest ranked Horror Thriller sites according to Netcraft.

And ...

This week, the search engine, SciFi Matters, has posted their Top 5 search ranked Horror websites, and feoamante.com is at the top of the list. So let me "Welcome" to all the folks coming in through SciFi Matters.

IT'S LIKE A BAD HORROR MOVIE ... ONLY WORSE

TROY, MI - (MARKET WIRE) - 08/16/2005 - DEAD AND BREAKFAST, Matthew Leutwyler's outrageous take on the "un-dead" genre, featuring the world's hottest "Ghoul Line Dance," raps its way from the big screen to DVD when Anchor Bay Entertainment proudly presents this critically acclaimed horror comedy in separate Unrated and R-rated versions on September 6, 2005. In addition to the DVD version of the film dubbed by Ain't It Cool News as "the U.S. answer to SHAUN OF THE DEAD, "Dead and Breakfast" will also be available day-and-date on the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld entertainment system. This is the first time that Anchor Bay simultaneously releases a title in both formats. SRP for the DVD and UMD is $19.98.

Written and directed by Matthew Leutwyler as a personal love letter to horror films, "Dead and Breakfast" turns convention on its ear - while tearing a few off in the process! - by applying generous amounts of tongue-in-cheek humor and a documented 34 gallons of fake blood to an original soundtrack by noted songwriter Zach Selwyn, who also appears in the film as a singing ghoul.

GETTING VOCAL ON THE DEATH SENTENCES
Oddly, two contests having nothing to do with each other, ran at Horrorworld back in July and the beginning of August and they were both about Death Sentences. One was Robert S. Rhine's DEATH SENTENCES, which asked entrants to write a single horrifying sentence, and the other was Matthew Warner's DEATH SENTENCES, based on his new short story collection of the same title.

Now Matthew Warner has released a free audio book of himself reading the first story of his collection DEATH SENTENCES. "Middle Passage" dramatizes the conditions aboard an 18th-century slave ship bringing Africans to the New World. It’s available as a downloadable .MP3 at matthewwarner.com / middlepassage.htm. He'll also be a guest at the Horrorfind Weekend in Hunt Valley, MD, with a reading and signing at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and a DEATH SENTENCES release party at 10 p.m. Aug. 20.

BIG BAD NEWS

I came home yesterday to some sad news. Matthew McGrory (IRON MAIDEN and MARILYN MANSON videos, THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, Big Fish, THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) died Tuesday in his Los Angeles home.

I met and had the chance to speak to Matthew on the set of THE DEVIL'S REJECTS in 2004. Though a 6+ year veteran of films by that time, he was still fascinated by the movie making process and enjoyed watching how a shoot was put together, watching the director; the crew; all of the people who set up every shot and action. Some wit on the set had drawn up small placards with a pen drawing of Matthew's face in character make-up and the announcement that "Tiny says..." some goofy command.

On the HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES DVD, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, and Sherri Moon Zombie have their own special DVD feature where they run through a series of cornball knock-knock jokes, each one ending with a punchline regarding Tiny and his arboreal choice of lovers. As small as his part was in both movies, fans took to his character and the actor.

In June 2005, I briefly met up with Matthew again at the FANGORIA DAYS OF DARKNESS Convention in Burbank, California. I was helping Robert Rhine promote his upcoming book and Matthew was there. I re-introduced myself, and asked if he could pose with one of Robert's covers. Matthew obliged (image at SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL) and as he posed he looked like he was in pain. Later that day at closing, Matthew's girlfriend helped him leave in a wheelchair. I hadn't seen him in a wheelchair before.

According to imdb.com, Matthew was about 7.6 and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the World's Largest Feet. Once on the TV show, Matthew was asked if "Everything on your body is big". Matthew chuckled and said, "...Do the math." Matthew was 32. No word yet on the cause of death.

Check out Matthew's website at afootandaHalf.com.

AMERICAN MCGEE INKS DEAL WITH CELLAR DOOR

Portland, OR – August 11, 2005 – Cellar Door Publishing and The Mauretania Import Export Company (TMIEC), a Los Angeles based videogame, film, and television production company, have signed an agreement to publish graphic novels based on the American McGee properties Bad Day LA, American McGee’s Oz, and American McGee’s Grimm.

“We’re very excited to work with American and TMIEC,” stated Cellar Door publisher Jade Dodge. “American has created worlds filled with endless possibilities for writers and artists. His properties are also a perfect fit for this medium. American McGee fans and fans of comic books in general are going to be pleased with what we have in store.”

The graphic novels will be conceived by American McGee and written and illustrated by some of the industries top creative talent. Bad Day LA will be based on the stories and characters in the upcoming tongue-in-cheek action adventure title. Oz will incorporate the dark, stylized, and edgy elements of American McGee's unique vision, and Grimm follows in the tradition of the American McGee brand by bringing to life a children's fairytale world in a twisted style and manner.

“Cellar Door has taken on three projects that are dear to me,” said McGee. “Graphic novels are a natural extension into the stories I develop and build. Graphic art drives each and every one of the stories that I write, from the character concepts to the environment sketches, each new project becomes a fount of imagery. I am excited, and I think fans will be too, that Cellar Door is going to open this flow of imagery to the outside world, and in the best way possible.”

American McGee, the creative force behind TMIEC, has been a major player in the interactive entertainment industry for more than a decade. He is best known for his work on American McGee’s Alice, the highly controversial DOOM, and the recently released Scrapland. He is currently developing Bad Day LA, an action/adventure game with comedic and political twists slated for an early 2006 release for the PC and Xbox video game system.

surrounding the production, very few details were released except the fact that Doyle will be ‘HIT and LIT UP WITH A FLARE GUN! SHOT UP! And LYNCHED IN A TREE!’ Talk about a nice day on the job!

WINNERS OF THE DEATH SENTENCE
Writer Robert Steven Rhine (SATAN'S 3-RING CIRCUS OF HELL), has finished his contest at Horrorworld.org. Welcome the winners of The Death Sentence Contest in which writers had to come with with just one horrifying sentence.

First place winner is:

D. FOLEY for his literally heart warming sentence:
"The smell of burning flesh, always an aphrodisiac, loses some of its power when the screaming stops."

Check out the rest of the winners at Rhine's Horrorworld Message Board.

Also, Thanks to WMMS Radio 100.7 (Cleveland's Rock Station morning drive), Sean, Cristi, Hunter and Hollywood, who had the balls to be the first radio station to interview Girls and Corpses Publisher / Editor-In-Chief Robert Steven Rhine, beating out L.A.'s KROQ Radio -- who chickened out at the last minute.

DOOM MIGHT BE DOOMED
Hollywood has been lamenting the fact that their movies, their precious movies, are underperforming left and right. There are some serious reasons why this is so. For example, The most successful movies usually pull in around $150 to $200 million at the box office. It is very rare that a movie brings in more than that. $300 to $400 million is a runaway blockbuster and occurs every once in a few years. That said, studios, which only get about half of what the box office brings in, have been making movies costing in the range of $150 to $200 million dollars. That means that even when the movie is a runaway smash, it only breaks even at the box office and the studio only gets half of what it cost to make the damn thing.

According to all manner of press, the studios are trying to figure out why their movies are "underperforming from their expected outrageous 'anticipated earnings'". Hey, studio heads, everyone else can see the reason! You are all a bunch of thick-skulled incompetent morons!

No honest! That really is the reason! But allow me to prove it.

WAR OF THE WORLDS has raked in - to date - $228 million at the box office and stands at #9 in the top 10 (according to imdb.com). Pretty impressive numbers! That's nearly Meet the Fockers money! But they spent $128 million making the flick. Which means that even when the movie gets to $250 million before it falls off of the top ten, the studio has still lost money on it!

FANTASTIC FOUR has brought in $144 million. Its a theatrical blockbuster but a major money loser.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was at #1 for two weeks in a row and remains in the top 5 after a month. It is so hot that it has raked in $169 million in only a month. Damn good business for the very top movies, yet it cost $150 million to make. So it has to break $300 mil. just to break even.

So studios are betting that every one of their movies are going to break box office records. Not merely that it will do well at the theaters, not merely that it will be a blockbuster, but the budget is actually set up so if the movie doesn't break box office records and become the biggest money maker of all time, then its a FLOP!

That is pretty damn stupid, friends!

The upcoming Horror action flick, DOOM, is being made for an estimated $70 million. The writer has already apologized to fans for seriously altering the storyline which won millions of converts world wide and changed the gaming industry forever (okay, that "forever" part was hype, but 12 years in the gaming industry is virtually forever!). The new plot is based on what goes wrong when the last 10% of the human genome is mapped out on a futuristic base on Mars (yes, I know, Hollywood doesn't realize we already fully mapped the human genome. Wait until they try to tell us who the "intelligent" choice for president is for 2008). Keep in mind that the most popular PC game to screen adaptation, TOMB RAIDER, made $131 million. It was a smash hit with audiences, but because it cost $80 million, it lost money because it needed to make $160 mill. Just to break even. So the studio spent big bucks on this film, with already outdated science, and a storyline that disenfranchises its core audience. Hey, if the built-in audience doesn't like it, who else would take a chance on a movie called DOOM?

Like I said, Pretty damn stupid!

And speaking of DOOM, check out what you can do with an iPod Linux!

QUICK BITE
One of the world's most dedicated Horror fans, Rob Zombie, gets interviewed by Scott Tobias at A.V. Club.

by Fred Godlash
BILLY DUFFY IN TALKS TO GET ‘ELECTRIC’ WITH SIN-JIN SMYTH!

BILLY DUFFY of the high-octane band, THE CULT is in talks to lay down some heavy guitar work on the soundtrack of SIN-JIN SMYTH! The film - which follows two Federal Marshals assigned to a midnight prisoner transfer (over Halloween weekend) of a mysterious man with no past - has a heavy action element in it, as if the characters were ‘rough and tumble gunfighters out of the Wild West!’ said Director Ethan Dettenmaier, ‘And for that, we want a serious edge!’

Midnight Syndicate, who is hard at work designing the orchestral track for the film, wanted to revolutionize their sound - and The Director wants to keep the music mean! “Syndicate is inventive,” Ethan continued, “And they made it clear that they wanted to expand upon the sound that they’ve become known for and that led to the idea of bringing in a guitar player. Once Edward (Douglass of Syndicate) and I discussed it, we agreed we should go out and get one of the best!”

Enter Billy Duffy … One of the most respected men in music!!!

Although a contract is still in the process of being worked out, the idea took a serious step forward as the film’s Producers met with Duffy and members of the SANCTUARY RECORDS GROUP at their offices in Los Angeles in order to ‘make it work!’

Duffy will also take on the role of Music Supervisor, working from the library of Sanctuary Records (which includes: IRON MAIDEN, MOTORHEAD, ROBERT PLANT, BILLY IDOL, FLEETWOOD MAC, MOTLEY CRUE and others) and yes Duffy will also gear up to take on a wicked role in the film ‘which will give him an opportunity to get locked and loaded, weapons and all!’ Talk about a triple threat!

WAITING TILL THE MIDNIGHT HOUR
Die Monster Die! to Publish The Midnight Hour: Saint Lawn Hill and Other Tales, August 2005; Release Premiere at Horrorfind Weekend 2005 Baltimore—
Die Monster Die! announces the forthcoming publication of The Midnight Hour, an original collection of eight tales of startling supernatural adventure by James Chambers and more than 60 illustrations by Jason Whitley. This exciting new horror series, previously seen in a limited run chapbook and magazine, has now bloomed into a book-length collection.

In the world of The Midnight Hour, the supernatural is real—and more bizarre than you've ever imagined. Forget everything you think you know about demons, ghosts, haunted houses, witches, and vampires, and get ready to enjoy these surprising and off-beat new stories.

Combining horror, adventure, and a touch of humor, The Midnight Hour chronicles the adventures of Madeline Night and her team of occult investigators who specialize in debunking paranormal frauds and documenting true cases of otherworldly menace on their weekly radio program, The Midnight Hour, on WHPL radio.

Co-creators Chambers and Whitley—inspired in part by the desire to create something for their young daughters to read when they grow up—have achieved an unusually high level of collaboration for a writer and artist in crafting this series of suspenseful stories and haunting images. Each tale may be read on its own, but taken together they tell an ongoing story in a format akin to the book version of a DVD collection of a complete season of a television series.
