One Ring to Rule Them AllTHE LORD OF THE RINGS: Fellowship Of The Ring - 2001
New Line Cinema
Rated: USA: PG-13

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who divide people into two groups and those who don’t. More to the point, there are those who read and loved and became obsessed with the three “Lord of the Rings” books, and those who’ve never read them. Since I have a tattoo that contains an elvish letter, you would be correct in assuming I am in the first category. But to give an honest review of this movie I have to be of two minds and try to see it from both points of view.

The Two Towers posterTHE LORD OF THE RINGS: The Two Towers - 2002
New Line Cinema
Rated: USA: PG-13

All I really ask from a movie is to surprise me. That’s what it takes for me to achieve suspension of disbelief and really get in to the story. The older I get and the more movies I watch, the harder it is for any movie to do that for me anymore. So you’d think a movie based on a book I practically memorized as a young nerdling wouldn’t stand much of a chance. You’d think so, wouldn’t you?

Return of the KingTHE LORD OF THE RINGS: Return of the King - 2003
New Line Cinema
Rated: USA: PG-13

The attention span of the average person (depending on how much TV they watch) can barely manage most normal length flicks. So when you ask someone to watch a three hour and twenty-two minute movie, they're reaction is very predictable. They say, “That better be a damn good movie.”

The HobbitTHE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey - 2012
3Foot7, WingNut Films, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, New Line Cinema
Rated: USA: PG-13

Straight away, I'm a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien. Huge fan. I've not only read The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings, I've read The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (a book of poems which had very little Bombadil) and the posthumous work, Silmarillion: co-constructed/written by his son, Christopher. That said, there are fans of Tolkien who go far beyond my love of the books. They play the games, wear the tattoos written in Elfish, and have memories of the books and characters and their placements, representations, and meanings that run rings about me.

Still, I'm a huge Tolkien fan.
