FORBIDDEN PLANET: Over 20 Years IN Development Hell!
It's been over 20 years that various Hollywood studios have attempted the much coveted remake of FORBIDDEN PLANET. It was going to be a movie, a movie trilogy, a never-ending franchise, perhaps even a TV series.
One thing it never had, despite all of the best screenwriters hired over the decades, was a script that was anything more than "Interesting".
Welcome to Feo Amante's FORBIDDEN PLANET page. Everything interesting I can find, will go here or link from here.

Stop me if you've heard this before: A United Planets starship manned (we'll get back to that) by an elite crew, on a multi-year mission at the borders of explored space, arrives at a seemingly desolate planet. They very quickly discover the planet is not quite as desolate as it seems; there's something there that may endanger the ship.
Sounds like an episode of the week for Paramount's beloved SF television franchise. Nope! It's…

See Concept Art from the FORBIDDEN PLANET Remake That Never Was by Ralph McQuarrie, Syd Mead and Fund Kickstarter! Thursday, July 3, 2014 - by Maurice Mitchell
Years ago director Irvin Kershner, who directed Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Empire Strikes Back, tried to remake the 1950s science fiction classic Forbidden Planet. In 1995 he assembled a dream team of artists including Ralph McQuarrie, John Eaves, Mark "Crash" McCreery, Syd Mead and special effects master Stan Winson. They started work on the production but never completed it. John Eaves said on his blog, "The film went no where as time went on and thank goodness because the script was awful and would have been a travesty no matter who was working on it!!"

Script Review: Forbidden Planet Could Be James Cameron's Next By Josh Tyler: 2010-05-12 21:59:41
Avatar is out on DVD and still we don't know what director James Cameron
plans to do next. Cameron remains indecisive, though he has a laundry list of movie projects he's considering being involved in. Among them Avatar 2, Battle Angel Alita, another underwater movie no one wants to see called The Dive, and Forbidden Planet. As recently as a couple of months ago Cameron confirmed that he was actively involved in developing Forbidden Planet but hadn't “made any decisions about it yet.” We're still waiting for him to make one.
The Original Iron Man: Remembering Forbidden Planet by Adam Frank. May 9, 2010, 12:09 pm
"Hey, wake up. I want you to see this."
I was about 9 years old and my dad was gently shaking me back into consciousness. I knew it was going to be another late night TV movie. He did this every now and then, getting me up to watch some gem that I, in my 1970s youth, was bound to miss without him. Once it was the original Christmas Carol, another time it was Gregory Peck in Moby Dick. I shuffled out into the living room bleary eyed and excited. I had no idea what a world of wonders I was about to enter.
Forbidden Planet Re-Do To Be a Trilogy? December 24, 2008 John Howell
By Bruce Simmons
A classic science fiction movie before its time. That's what I thought of the 1956 film, Forbidden Planet.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a classic film that will always stand the test of time. It had suspense, comedic cast support, a brave space crew, a tortured scientist, the hot but super intelligent young lady and a mysterious monster lurking just out of sight. All woven together masterfully in a screenplay by Cyril Hume, directed by Fred M. Wilcox and translated to us by stars such as Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, Leslie Nielsen (no, he wasn't the comedic support) and Robby the Robot.

Dreamworks seeking screenwriters for FORBIDDEN PLANET remake Published on Thursday, February 6, 2003 - 12:17am
Hey folks, Harry here... FORBIDDEN PLANET is a project that's been in the hell of development for what seems like ages. One of the problems they've had is that everytime they develop it, they keep running back into the original, which is of course genius. A very long time ago Irvin Kershner (director of STAKEOUT ON DOPE STREET) was developing it... to such a point that Stan Winston had built props and they were ready to go and... well it fell apart. Another time it was looking like James Cameron was going to make FORBIDDEN PLANET. Then when the project showed up at New Line it looked like Frank Darabont was going to write it. Well, New Line threw up their hands as well, but when Michael Deluca landed at Dreamworks, and New Line surrendered development on FORBIDDEN PLANET, well Deluca picked it up for the second time, but at a new studio.
