ROB ZOMBIE: HELLBILLY DELUXE

- 1998
USA Release: AUG! 25, 1998
Geffen Records

From Out of the Darkness the Zombie Did Call

For all future releases, I just may have to get somebody else to review Rob Zombie. He would really have to step on his dick to make me say anything bad about him, he's that damn good! Can you think of anyone else who could make Metal so danceable?

BILLY IDOL you say?

HA! You poor stupid fool! Don't make me laugh! Billy's VITAL IDOL was a remixed looping piece of shit! (I bought it anyway, that's how I know. I still love the original mixes though)

MARYLIN MANSON's REMIX AND REPENT?

HA! Again! Those songs were good the first time and he didn't improve them. If anything, he homogenized them! (but yeah, I bought it anyway)

On the other hand, have you heard WHITE ZOMBIE'S SUPER SEXY SWINGING SOUNDS? Incredible! Not a false note in the entire thing (the less said about WHITE ZOMBIE: NIGHT CRAWLERS and its remix by KMFDM's Sascha Konietzo, the better)!

Well, what about HELLBILLY DELUXE? The Rock Freakin' Zombie still walks among us! He stakes his territory in the genre he loves, horror, and becomes its musical master. The child's voice introducing the album goes right into SUPERBEAST,
"Hell yeah! I'm the one that you wanted /
Hell yeah! I'm your Superbeast!"

which in turn, shotguns right into DRAGULA and so on. The album never rests.

Between each song there is an audio trivia game of sound clips. I couldn't figure out what was his and what came from some damn movie I could barely remember

"Who is this irresistable creature who has an insatiable love for the dead?"

The CD booklet is good fun too. Done up like an old 4E Monsters of Filmland magazine (Famous Monsters of Filmland artist Boris Gogol himself did the cover to this album!), the booklet is a hoot to flip through while blasting the tunes.

Song after song rocks the Rob Zombie way. If this was a tape I would have destroyed the thing by now from playing it so much. Rob is moving into movie writing and directing (The Crow 3*), and after he's done with his music career I can easily picture him as king of the TV horror hosts.

This album is outstanding and well deserves its five perplex skulls.
